SPAL has been talking cooling with Cardiff Racing and this is what we heard about the team’s Formula Student bid in 2017:
Cardiff Racing is a group of 35 volunteers which collectively put 18,000 hours of work in to develop, market, finance, design, build and compete internationally against teams from around the world.
We are currently the top competing Welsh team and 5th overall in the UK, due to some unfortunate and unavoidable mechanical failures in the previous season. This year’s car, CR13, is our thirteenth iteration car and the second of which to include a full aerodynamic package.
Aiming for a top 10 finish at the UK event at Silverstone
Thanks to new found sponsorship, we will be moving to a new powertrain package this year, centred around the more powerful and reliable Triumph Street Triple 675 engine.
Our chassis and suspension packages have been developed to be both lighter and stiffer than previous years, as well as providing a greater adjustability allowing us to finely tune the car more than ever before.
We believe that this year, with our more refined design techniques, more reliable sub systems and crucially, greater focus on testing, will be our most successful year to date. We aim for a top 10 finish at the UK event at Silverstone from the 120 plus competing teams and a top 5 finish at the Czech Republic event.
