Rob Wilson, SPAL’s young rally contender notched up a win in his first race of the season. Despite the tricky weather and standing water on the track, Rob was ‘chucking it in sideways’ on the 3 Sisters course at Wigan in the Questmead Stages aka Round 1 of the F1000 Junior Rally Championships.
Rob’s skill paid off with the event commentator praising his driving talent and left foot braking technique. Rob sent us this report:
“We started the rally with a stage win but then on stage two, a new driver got stuck in front of me meaning I lost 10 seconds.
“Going into stage 3 we were lying in 6th place and we knew a push was on. We gave it everything and we managed to claw our way back up to 1st with a 40 second advantage.
“By the afternoon stages, conditions got far worse and at times it was like driving on ice, but all ended well and I had a chance to spray the victory champagne. As it was my first time, it was no surprise I got absolutely soaked!”
What a fantastic start, congratulations to Rob and team mate Martin. We now look forward to the next challenge!
