SPAL joined 350 cyclists from all over Europe including pro-riders, Tour legends and Team Sky for the 16th outing of the Vuelta a Menorca.
The round island cycle ride which shows off Menorca’s highlights & brings together British & Spanish cyclists was a closed road event spread across the weekend 14th – 16th October. It involved a 30 mile introductory ride on the opening Friday afternoon plus a full 75 mile stretch the following morning. Team SPAL, sporting its distinctive jersey, fared well even during the 5 mile timed, gnarly hill climb, the S’Enclusa ascent.
On Sunday, the group covered a similar distance and there was another timed climb to the top of Monte Toro, the only mountain in Menorca. This proved more difficult, especially with the company of about 400 sightseers at the summit, not to mention the 27⁰C temperature (bring on the cooling fans!).
The final stop to enjoy an amazing five-course meal was certainly well earned.
The event was another chance for the home team to maintain fitness in preparation for a number of charity bikes rides with the wider SPAL network in 2017.
If you are planning a charity bike ride and need some kit, talk to us and we’d be happy to contribute one of our jerseys.
