Our Junior Rally hero Rob Wilson and team mate Martin Haggett overcame tyre trouble to clinch 1st place in the latest round of the Championship.
He gave us this gripping account:
“Wethersfield Stages is a tricky venue - one of the fastest stages of the year by a long shot - with the top crews hitting speeds of 110mph zipping around a tight military base.
“The rally started positively with 1st place after 2 stages by a 1 second lead. The car felt amazing and we knew a win was on the cards. Stages 3 and 4 were difficult though as we had tyre problems and some very confusing stages meant we dropped 7 seconds and lost a place.
“Going into the final two stages, we knew the fight was on to claw back the 6 seconds and we both knew they were going to be the most important two stages of the championship.
“We went into stage 5 on the limit but still within control and took an 8 second stage win leaving us 2 seconds in the lead. Stage 6 was the decider with nothing left in the bag by the end of the stage. We were on the limit of grip and of what the car was capable of. Gaining another 8 seconds, we consolidated our lead and won by 10 seconds.
“For us this is one of our proudest and hardest fought victories keeping us ahead of our gutsy rival Elliot Payne who as you will remember beat us by 1 second earlier in the year!
“We now have won 4 out of 5 events we have entered and taking a podium in the other race, puts us in an even stronger position for the championship".
Another fabulous result, well done guys.
