A win for Rob Wilson to finish the Junior Rally Championship

Rob Wilson, the young driver SPAL has been following throughout 2018 secured a win in his final event of the year. He sent us this report of the challenging two day event.

Last weekend (24/25 November) was the final round of the Junior Rally Championship up at the Anglesey circuit. We headed into the event with only used tyres and brake pads. This didn’t stop us pushing. On the first day we set 7 out of 8 fastest times and we were leading by a minute - thanks to co-driver Martin Haggett’s brilliant advice in the very greasy, ice cold conditions.

After a team talk, we decided Sunday would be spent consolidating our lead and preserving the car so that we could win the event.

On Sunday, we extended our lead from 1 minute to 1 minute and 30 seconds in just 4 stages. We finished the final four stages with car intact and came away with a convincing 1 minute and 26 second lead! An amazing result to end our rollercoaster of a season.

Over the winter we are going to make the car more presentable and hopefully lose some weight as well as changing some of the more worn parts!

This year, it’s fair to say, we have had high and lows of emotions and results but the drive and commitment of myself and the whole team has kept us all going. In addition, without SPAL’s backing and enthusiasm we wouldn’t be where we are today. Many thanks for all the support. I hope we can continue our pace into 2019 and win the overall championship.

Well that was exciting. We are definitely on to witness the rise of the determined young star in 2019.
