Rob Wilson doesn’t like to twiddle his thumbs in between events so leapt at the chance to compete in the M-Sport Return to Rally Stages at the weekend which represented an important re-start to the season.
Here is his account of the action:
“It was a privilege to compete in the only forest event since the COVID-19 pandemic. We only decided to do the event as we were unsure of our plans for the rest of the year and the BRTDA championship was still going ahead at this point. We had been testing mid-lockdown to get some seat time but there is nothing is quite like a proper forest event.
“Going into the event we knew our class was strong - with previous rivals and seasoned forest rally drivers taking up the challenge.
“As we got to the first stage, conditions were less than ideal as the roads were waterlogged and really muddy. We decided to just push from the word go and after one stage we lead the class by just 2 seconds. We kept pushing all through the next stages, keeping the intensity up and making sure not to take any unnecessary risks. After 5 stages we were leading by 16 seconds.
“Going into the final stage we knew that we just had to hold our position and keep on going until the end. We took 6 seconds out of second place to win the class by 22 seconds and round our first year of forest rallying off with a great result!”
Talk about a triumphant return! Here’s to the next challenge.
