Refrigerated supermarket home delivery fleet goes electric

SPAL applauds major supermarket player Tesco for expanding its fleet of home delivery vehicles with 52 new vans featuring fully electric inverter powered E-200 refrigeration units.

With online deliveries going through the roof in the current climate, the new vehicles will be a vital addition to help keep the nation supplied with essentials.

The all-in-one cooling refrigeration units, which were developed by Thermo King and feature SPAL fans, are equipped to keep cargo cooled during multiple trips from door to door even when the van engine is switched off.

The fully electric cooling remains operational regardless of the speed of the vehicle which makes it extremely efficient and reliable; plus any required spare capacity can be provided from the van’s back up battery.

As world leading manufacturers of electric cooling fans, SPAL appreciates the benefits of the technology, its value both now and in the future, and congratulates Thermo King on its design.

Ultimately fuel saving, the electric operation means reduced emissions and low noise - a particular advantage if delivering at night - to clear that home delivery backlog - in rural areas but also in existing urban low emission zones and those coming into force.
