Pandemic poses a challenge for managing studies
Our MD Matthew Morris was impressed this week to hear from the winner of the SPAL Automotive Scholarship, Harper Adams engineering student Emily Jones that she is not only managing the huge upheaval in her studies but is also doing her bit for the NHS during the pandemic.
Emily explained that some of her assignments have had to be adjusted to suit lockdown measures, her exams will be taken in an entirely different format and timescale but she is not put off:
“Having adapted to the challenges posed by the recent changes and general global situation, I am determined to stay focussed on my assignments and exams to complete this year on a high.”
Engineers helping to fight the pandemic
Aside from her university work, Emily wants to do her bit during the crisis by signing up to a driver’s scheme to collect and deliver PPE to NHS keyworkers; all while cheering her family on and championing the cause of engineering:
“My father’s company is also 3D printing facemasks to help fight this pandemic, and they are utilising their supply chain to source key components for UK companies that manufacture ventilators. This makes me incredibly proud as this is a time when engineers and engineering companies can really do their part in order to assist those on the frontline.”
We wish Emily the best of luck in her studies and feel certain that the ability to adapt and show such determination will serve her well in her engineering career.
