Kevin Johnson has joined SPAL as Business Development Manager for the Transport Refrigeration sector, practically fresh from a stint driving a supermarket home delivery van to keep busy during the pandemic.
An area manager in the motor trade, Kevin was made redundant just before lockdown and since there was nothing suitable to apply for at that point, he signed up with Sainsburys.
“I am a positive person and sitting around at home is not my style. So, keen to keep working and helped by my previous jobs where I had to drive all sorts of vehicles, I took to the open road. I learned a lot and found it very rewarding delivering food to grateful people in lockdown.”

This first-hand experience in driving a refrigerated vehicle, combined with Kevin’s credentials from the motor industry, appealed to SPAL.
“SPAL was designated an essential service during lockdown as a supplier of fans for the supermarkets’ home delivery fleets,” explains SPAL UK, Head of Sales & Marketing James Coughlan.

Kevin joins SPAL at a busy and exciting time; post-pandemic the company has already exceeded growth targets across all sectors, but particularly in refrigerated transport. Kevin’s role will be focussed on manufacturers of refrigerated trailers and delivery vehicles with chillers on board, as well as the companies that build the cooling units.
He concludes, “Everyone’s so friendly here, there’s a good team structure, a positive office environment and great potential for me to grow with the business!”
