SPAL cools Formula Student team USM again!

The global showcase of young engineering talent that is Formula Student is hotting up for 2019 and SPAL is happy to lend its support once again to longstanding contender University of Strathclyde Motorsport.

Engine cooling is an important part of the 2019 strategy, as powertrain engineer Marc Muldoon explains:

“USM - University of Strathclyde Motorsport - has been competing in Formula Student since 2001 and is the longest running Formula Student team in Scotland. The team has competed both in the UK at Silverstone, but also regularly competes abroad at Formula Student Germany and has previously won the Cost Event at both competitions."

New SPAL fan will reduce car weight

“For 2019 the team consists of around 20 active team members working towards our latest car, USM19. One of the main areas of focus this year has been to reduce weight through better system packaging. Our cooling system is a perfect example of this. By utilizing a new SPAL fan which will be fully ducted, we have been able to select a smaller radiator which is half the weight of the previous design.

“The team is currently hard at work ensuring USM19 will be a competitive car at FSUK and we would like to thank SPAL for its support for this season!"

We wish the USM team the very best of luck!
