A day in the life of Ashley Brown

It has taken a while to catch Ashley Brown, Technical Sales Support - SPAL UK, with time to spare and tell us about his day but this week we succeeded and here’s what he had to say.

​​How do you like to start the day?

As early as possible after the 6am alarm. I run 3 mornings a week and walk into work every day so that I get my exercise in before the working day begins.

How do you approach dealing with customers over the phone and in person?

I am office based so when speaking to customers over the phone I aim for an enthusiastic, helpful, positive and confident manner. I am looking to provide answers and solutions to suit the customers’ needs. Especially in these difficult times it is important to deliver satisfaction.

​Any secrets to getting the best out of the working day?

Be energised and organised. I am often dealing with emails from different time zones so have to be mindful of meeting those differing deadlines.

​What have you learned about establishing a rapport with colleagues?

Find some common ground. Bond over shared hobbies and interests. Running and cycling are both popular at SPAL and all is captured on our Garmin smart watches. Matthew is a great point of reference for me with his extensive product knowledge, experience and know-how of the after market.

How would you sum up your philosophy on the work/life balance?

A good work/life balance bring success if you get it right. I always take a walk at lunchtime so that I have energy for the afternoon session.

Then at the end of the day I can stroll home and hit the sofa without the need to force myself out again because my daily exercise is already in the bag!

Sometimes to relax I like to play a few tunes and do 20 minutes of ironing before dinner and then telly time. I love any kind of sport but a bit of Kirsty & Phil is a shared watch for me and my partner.
