James has been with SPAL Automotive UK for just under a month, but he has thrown himself into the job of Aftermarket Business Development Manager for Agriculture & Off-Highway with such gusto and determination and some big plans for growing his sector.
In telling us about his day, we discovered he is brave enough to begin his day with a helping of current affairs and can only imagine that must require a very strong cuppa indeed!
How do you start your day?
I have always been interested in world news so first I put on Sky NEWS to hear the latest headlines and information from around the world with a nice cup of tea.
How do you approach dealing with customers over the phone and in person?
I like to treat my customers as I would want them to treat me, professionally, politely and with the correct information, and most importantly as two human beings with a life outside of work.
It is important to me that they enjoy working with me. I have made many friends over the years, and I like to put that down to the fact that they always know I will do my best for them even if I have to say no occasionally.
Any secrets to getting the best out of the working day?
I just try to be organised and have a process to my working day so that I can be at my best.
What have you learned about establishing a rapport with colleagues?
'Just be who you are' is my mantra. Do the best for the company and the people I work with, not everyone will like you and that is just the way of the world.
How would you sum up your philosophy on the work/life balance?
Remind myself that I work to live, it is my family who will miss me when I’m gone.
