OBR23 hits the ground running

Nothing excites us more than hearing from Formula Student teams year after year about how they are growing and learning to become the next generation of innovative engineers.

Oxford Brookes Racing sent us an update on next year’s car - OBR23 – telling us their plans for the competition and how to put into practice all the experience gained from OBR22. There is a big focus getting as many people involved in the project as possible so naturally the update kicks off with a famous team quote:

'Together we will do great things!'

The first few months have been very exciting for us here at Oxford Brookes Racing and we have already hit the ground running! Recently, we have welcomed many new faces and the team has grown immeasurably. As you can imagine, it is a very exhilarating time for us welcoming a generous number of new people to the team, who bring a great amount of enthusiasm for the year ahead!

Recent events at Oxford Brookes

We have many exciting events planned for this year, some of which have already taken place in the past couple of weeks.

In particular, the ‘Recruitment Day’ at the major site of Oxford Brookes University, Headington Campus, where we had the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with many students willing to put into practice their dexterities for the success of the team, then ‘Ada Lovelace Day’, during which we wanted to celebrate all the skilful women on our team and all of their achievements, and ‘Science Bazaar’ to bring children closer to the scientific world by playing.

Formula Student's 'Learn to Win'

We also went to ‘Learn to Win’ at the start of November. This is a Formula Student run event where teams get to ask questions about the events and new 2023 rules. We gained a lot of understanding from the judges and scrutineers throughout the day on topics such as scrutineering, cost, and business plan and we’re excited to put their feedback into action!

We also had a great time connecting with Polestar, University Glasgow Racing, and Oxford University Racing and seeing how we could all benefit from partnerships with each other. This is another positive of L2W, the opportunity to connect with companies and fellow FS teams!

Words from Tor Nielsen, Chief Electrical Engineer

Tor Nielsen, Chief Electrical Engineer sums up the year’s progress:

"This year has got off to a great start, we have been focusing on building the team, adapting our designs to the new rules and getting ready for taking OBR22 testing!

I want to thank all our sponsors and partners for their support, we wouldn't be in the position we are now without your help and we aim to achieve the overall victory together this year.”

Good luck OBR

At SPAL Automotive UK we are more than happy to follow the journey and be on hand as usual supplying fans and thermal management advice. We wish team OBR the best of luck in 2023.
