USM forges ahead with 2023 electric race car

University of Strathclyde Motorsport got in touch to tease their impressive Formula Student entry USM23 and thank SPAL UK for its ongoing support.

Having supplied fans to the team since 2019 for engine cooling and more recently for battery thermal management, we were keen to catch up on progress:

“The team at USM have been extremely busy over the past months designing, simulating, and planning the manufacture of the car for the upcoming season, USM23. This includes the design of the all-new steel spaceframe chassis, suspension system, PCBs, wiring looms and drivetrain components. Final touches are currently being made to our manufacture plans so that the team can hit the ground running this term!

“We are also looking to test our new electric powertrain in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on how the testing progresses.

“The Winter newsletter just touches the surface of all the hard work that goes into designing and building a race car and we are forever grateful for the support from our sponsors that allow us to pursue our passion for engineering and racing!”

Wishing the USM team the best of luck

Thanks for the update team USM. We found it interesting to read how a team of over 250 people came together to develop this year’s entry and solve engineering challenges to focus on the car’s reliability and ability to complete the series of exacting events set by the Formula Student competition.

Sounds like a winning strategy to us!  Best of luck in the summer.
