Technical fault ends hopes for Woodpecker Stages

Rob Wilson report

Badlands Farm, Radnor - a challenging course

Rally courses always have a few surprises to challenge drivers to get out of trouble but even if you do come good, sometimes it's just not your race.

That was the case for Rob Wilson who took on the reformatted course around Badlands Farm, Radnor in the Woodpecker Stages.

Mechanical fault halts Rob Wilson

He told us:

“The Woodpecker Stages rally was sadly not to be. The event had been one I’d been looking forward to for months. Some really long hours had been put into the preparations for the car, so we had high hopes for the event.

“We entered the first stage with strong pace but missed a braking point and hit a chicane which cost us 30 seconds as we then had to reverse back out of it.

“With a frustrating stage one completed, we headed for stage two where the pace continued until randomly our gearbox developed a terminal fault and second gear was lost, taking out the rest of the components internally. We limped to the end but could go no further.

“We are gutted about this and find it just so frustrating when a mechanical fault just happens. That said we will be back stronger and pushing harder.”

That was bad luck Rob. You certainly weren’t the only team to retire from the race. Regroup and ‘rally’ for next time.
