Dead Heat Delivers 2nd Place for Rob Wilson

Rob Wilson is still flying after narrowly missing the top spot at Caerwent in the Mid-Summer Stages of the Junior Rally Championship yesterday (Sunday 16 June).

“It was a great day for the team in Round 5 of the Championship yesterday. We knew coming into the rally that the competition would be the hardest of the year by a long way, so we knew we had to come out fighting. We were in a comfortable second after 2 stages and 3 seconds off 1st place.

“It started to rain just before stage 3 and we knew this was our opportunity. We went as hard as we could in the conditions, taking the stage win by over 12 seconds, putting us in the lead.

“A further two stage wins after that gave us an 11 second lead. On the final stage we improved on our stage 5 time (stages were in pairs) and kept the car safe but still went for it.

“But an incredible effort from rival Elliot Payne, who came back to service missing car parts after going all out, ended in a dead heat as we both finished on 1 hour 20 minutes & 17 seconds in total. Because Elliot won the 1st stage, he took the overall win.

“Still, second place is brilliant for our championship and puts us in an excellent place for the rest of the year. The pace yesterday improved my driving stage by stage and our overall time was equivalent to coming 22nd in the Seniors in a standard C1!"

Well done to Rob and Martin - another impressive result and all to play for Brawdy Stages in July - follow the link for the remaining racing calendar.
